Never forgetting the camaraderie that he felt while in the Army, James was active in many north pocono veterans organizations: he was member the American Legion Wall-Sebring Post 274 in Gouldsboro, Sons of the American Legion, the Legion Riders and served on their Color Guard; a member of the John J. Michaels Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5207 in Covington Twp and a member of the Wilson-Conklin American Legion Post 579 in Moscow.

In addition to his wife Cynthia, James is survived by his cousins. He was preceded in death by his sister: Judy Swartz, an infant sister: Mary Ellen and an infant brother: William.
