Obituary for Charles "Charlie" Barnauskas

Charles “Charlie” Barnauskas, 73, a resident of Roaring Brook Twp, died on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at home with the love of his life, Shirley Chester, by his side.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late John and Ann (Hordach) Barnauskas. Charlie graduated from Scranton Technical High School and served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Prior to retiring, he worked as an inspector at the Tobyhanna Army Depot for 40 years. Charlie was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church for over 50 years.

A “Mr. Fix It”, Charlie had the ability to fix just about anything and if he couldn't, he would find a way to figure out how. He enjoyed making memories with his family and friends while cooking out and couldn't wait to get behind the wheel of his 1976 Trans Am. Charlie also liked going to the casino and playing blackjack.

In addition to Shirley, Charlie is survived by his step-daughters: Lenora Chester of Daleville and Melanie Chester of Madison Twp; his step-grandson: Ian Rollison; his step-great grandchildren: Abigail and Isabelle; his brother: John Barnauskas and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother: Joseph Barnauskas and his step-granddaughter: Ashley Rollison.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 1 at 10:00 am at Saints Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church, Academy St in Scranton. Interment with military honors will follow in the parish cemetery.

Viewing will be on Friday, August 31 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Brian Arthur Strauch Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, LLC 3 First St in Spring Brook Twp with Panachida services being held at 6:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Vietnam Veterans of America, 8719 Colesville Rd., Suite 100, Silver Spring, Maryland 20910. To share your fondest memories of Charlie, please visit the funeral home's website or Facebook page.
