Obituary for John R. "Jack" Grill

John R. “Jack” Grill, 91, of Boynton Beach, Fl died on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at The Villages Hospice House in The Villages, FL. His wife is the former Almeda Johnson and last year the couple celebrated their 66th anniversary on March 17.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late John and Margaret (Froehlig) Grill. Jack graduated from Scranton Central High School and attended the University of Pittsburgh. A veteran of World War II, he served the Army Air Corps as a Flight Engineer and gunner on a B 17. He earned the rank of SGT. Prior to retiring in 1982, Jack worked in the marketing department of Bell Telephone of Pennsylvania.

Everything Jack did he did with enthusiasm, embracing his retirement and enjoying it to the fullest. As an avid outdoorsman, he liked hunting, fishing, trapping and when he could no longer shoot a rifle, he transitioned to archery with ease. As a natural athlete, he became an avid golfer upon moving to Florida. Jack also owned and piloted his own plane. Most importantly, “Honey” as he was known to his grandchildren and great grandchildren, loved his family and cherished the memories made with them.

In addition to his wife Almeda, Jack is survived by his daughter: Robin Slocum and her husband Charles of The Villages, FL; his daughter in law: Mollie Ann Grill of Skytop; his grandchildren: Hannah Catherine Grill, Nicole Duslak and her husband Mark & their children Avery David & Julia Madison Duslak., & grandson Jonathan Grill. He was preceded in death by his son: Thomas W. Grill and his grandson: David Richard Slocum.

Private services and interment were held at Fairview Memorial Park in Elmhurst Twp. Arrangements were entrusted to Brian Arthur Strauch Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, LLC in Spring Brook Twp.
