Obituary for Harry Curtis McLain

Harry Curtis McLain, 87, of Madison Twp, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 9, 2018. His wife of 53 years, Sarah (Wardell) McLain, died on November 23, 2004.

Born in Madison Twp. on June 22, 1930, he was the son of the late Everett and Mary (Burkhart) McLain. Harry graduated from Moscow High School, Class of 1948 and was the Chairman of the Moscow High School Reunion Committee. He was a life-long dairy farmer who had served his community in many capacities. Harry was a member and the treasurer of the North Pocono Joint Authority Board, Chairman of the Moscow, Lake Ariel, and Sterling Dairylea districts and served as the Secretary/Treasurer of Madison Township for 8 years.

Harry was a hard-working man of great and steady faith. As a member of the Madisonville Christian Church, he had previously served as Treasurer and Head Deacon and was affectionately known as “The Candy Man”.

Harry will be missed by all who knew him and remembered as a kind and loving man, an avid ice-fisherman and a die-hard Yankee fan.

Surviving are his daughter Carol Wallace and her husband Donald of Madison Twp.; his sons Arthur McLain and his wife Michelle of Greenfield Twp. and Allan McLain and his wife Karen of Madison Twp.; his grandchildren: A. J. Wallace and Sarah McLain and numerous nieces and nephews. Harry was also preceded in death by his sisters: Marjorie Passuello, Dorothy Jochen and Sarah Hall.

The funeral service will be on Monday, May 14 at 11:00 am at Brian Arthur Strauch Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, LLC 3 First St in Spring Brook Twp to be conducted by Pastor Scot Schlittler. Interment will follow in Madison Union Cemetery.

Viewing will be on Sunday, May 13 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the funeral home.
