Obituary for Evan "Bud" Schreck

Evan “Bud” Schreck, age 91, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 14, 2018 after an illness while residing at St. Mary’s Villa in Elmhurst Twp..

Born to Evan F. and Helen (Miller) Schreck on August 29, 1926 in Madisonville. After serving in the Army during WWII, he came home to open a country store. He married the love of his life Ruth (Gromlich) Schreck on September 2, 1950, and they ran the store successfully until 1989. Bud was always helping people in the community and would deliver groceries to peoples’ homes even during snowstorms.

His lifelong testimony reflected his strong faith in Jesus Christ. He always played the Christian radio station, WPEL, in his store enjoying the great hymns of the faith. He was the last surviving Charter Member of Madisonville Fire Company which he was instrumental in founding. He served as Fire Chief and in various capacities during his life of service with the company.

A lifelong member of Madisonville Christian Church, he served as Trustee, faithful member and volunteer. He served for years as a Henry Drinker Estate Trustee and worked as caretaker of the Union Cemetery alongside his wife, Ruth. He was a dedicated community volunteer, an avid fisherman, gardener, hunter, carpenter, & overall Mr. Fix It. He also belonged to a bowling league for many years. He loved swimming and water skiing, which he last did when he was 86 years old. The trips to Canada will be treasured memories for all of his family members.

Left to carry on Bud’s legacy of devotion to family, hard work ethic and intense love of God and country are his three children Gary and wife Patti Schreck; Diane and husband Jack Bird; and Myron and wife Penny Schreck. Five grandchildren: Scott and wife Kristin Schreck, Julie Schreck, Amy and husband Dan Gearhart, Michael Bird, and Amanda Schreck. Four great grandchildren: Joseph and wife Brieann Schreck; Joshua Schreck, and Ian and Emily Gearhart. One great great grandson, Ryan Schreck, his sister: Ruth Sherman and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth (Gromlich) Schreck, sisters Elouise Schreck, Esther Brown, & Virginia Madden.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff at St. Mary’s Villa for their care of Bud during his time there and we are forever grateful to Pastor Scot Schlittler for his regular and frequent visits to Bud. His encouragement, loving support, and constant prayers have been a tremendous comfort and blessing to Bud and his family.

We cling to our hope in Jesus and are confident that we will see Evan again in glory.
JOHN 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
