Obituary for Dorothy M. Hayden

Dorothy M. Hayden, 67, of Dalton died on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 while walking her beloved furry friend, Ranger. She was married to James Hayden and the couple celebrated their 32nd anniversary in 2017.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Robert J and Audrey M. (Evans) Smith. Dorothy graduated from North Pocono High School and earned her RN from Muhlenberg Hospital School of Nursing in Plainfield, NJ. Throughout her life, she worked as RN at Thomson Consumer Electronics in Dunmore and at Abington Manor in Clarks Summit.

Dorothy was an active Scout Mom, following her sons through the various levels of scouting, seeing them both earn their Eagle Scout. She was the Cubmaster for Pack 156, active in Troop 251 in Clarks Green, where she served as the committee chair and was the advancement committee chair for Northeastern Pennsylvania Council of Boy Scouts of America in Moosic. Her commitment to the BSA gave her the ability to mentor many scouts as they grew and learned not only about scouting but also about life. Dorothy enjoyed taking wine tours throughout the Finger Lakes of NY, baking and cooking but her passion was putting others before herself, especially her family. She loved her dad and spent countless hours picking blueberries with him.

In addition to her husband, Dorothy is survived by her sons: Keith J. Hayden and his wife Renae of Roaring Brook Twp and Erik J. Hayden of Dalton; her brother: Robert J. “Spider” Smith and his wife Sally of Roaring Brook Twp & her nephew and god son: John Robert Smith of Roaring Brook Twp.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 30 at 10:30 am at Brian Arthur Strauch Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, LLC 3 First St in Spring Brook Twp to be conducted by Pastor Eric Luczak. Interment will follow in Fairview Memorial Park in Elmhurst Twp.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 29 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
