Obituary for Charles "Traveler" Piechowicz

Charles “Traveler” Piechowicz, 71, of Covington Twp died on Friday, September 7, 2018 at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. His wife is Sylvia (Bysar) Piechowicz and the couple was married for 52 years.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Casimir & Genevieve (Lichota) Piechowicz. Charles served in the U.S. Army retiring after 23 years of service. He was stationed many places throughout the world, including Vietnam, Korea, Germany and here in the U.S. was a recruiter in Scranton. Charles also was a truck driver, working for Sun Aqua Farms, U.S. Express and Nicholas Trucking.

A proud veteran, he was a member of the American Legion Wall-Sebring Post 274 in Gouldsboro, John J. Michaels Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5207 in Covington Twp and a 15 year member of the Vietnam Vets Motorcycle Club of PA.

Charles enjoyed bowling with his fellow veterans at South Side Bowl's Tuesday night Servicemen League and he golfed in the Thursday night league at Marjon Golf Course. He also liked playing poker online. Charles looked forward to his yearly trip to Florida every September to visit his friends and he couldn't wait to ride his motorcycle whenever he got the chance.

In addition to his wife, Sylvia, Charles is survived by his son: Donald of Covington Twp; his grandsons: Charles Piechowicz of Covington Twp and Zachary Piechowicz of Durham, N.C. and his sister: Genevieve Bronson of Waverly, NY.

A blessing service will be held on Wednesday, September 12, at 10:30 am at Brian Arthur Strauch Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, LLC 3 First St in Spring Brook Twp to be celebrated by Father Robert J. Simon. Interment with Rite of Committal and military honors will be held in Fairview Memorial Park in Elmhurst Twp.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, September 11 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
