Obituary for Betty Scull

Elizabeth Florence “Betty” Scull, 90, of Covington Twp died on Monday, January 29, 2018 at The Wesley Village Campus in Jenkins Twp. She was the widow of Arthur Glenn Scull, who died on October 10, 1997 and they were married for 49 years when he passed away.

Born in Spring Brook Twp, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Margaret (Wyss) Schlittler. Betty attended Lackawanna Business School and before retiring, worked as a baker at Kaltenbach Bakery in Scranton, she owned and operated the Village Bake Shop in Covington Twp for 40 years and as a store manager for Stephens Pharmacy in Moscow.

Betty lived her life putting others before herself, helping a friend or family member no matter what their need. She was a dedicated member of the Maple Lake United Methodist Church in Spring Brook Twp, where she faithfully played the piano and organ for over 70 years. Throughout her years at the church, Betty came to know and love her church family dearly. She liked watching the birds as they visited the feeders she put out for them and enjoyed making new memories at the cottage next to the river at Lake Wallenpaupack. Always thinking of others, Betty loved making special birthday cakes for her nieces and nephews.

Betty is survived by her son: Arthur Glenn Scull, Jr and his wife Elaine of Covington Twp; her sister: Ruth Stephens and her husband Bill of Wyomissing & her grandson: Arthur Glenn Scull, III of Covington Twp. She was preceded in death by her sister: Pearl Rollison and her brother: Jacob Schlittler.

The funeral service will be on Thursday, February 1 at 11:00 am at Maple Lake United Methodist Church, 632 State Route 690 in Spring Brook Twp celebrated by Pastor Eric Luczak. Interment will follow in Fairview Memorial Park in Elmhurst Twp.

Viewing will be on Thursday morning from 9:00 am until the time of the service at the church.
