Online Obituaries

Joyce (Frisbie) Davis, 77, of Lake Ariel passed away at her daughter & son in law's home on Saturday, August 5, 2017 after a fierce, determined and courageous battle with cancer. She and her husband, George “Billy” Davis, moved to Lake Ariel after they were married and celebrated their 55th anniversary in June.

Born and raised in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Raymond & Lila (George) Frisbie and was a graduate of Scranton Central High School.

Through her years of employment, she worked for Sebastianelli's Seafood Market, Joe's Market, Phillips Manor, Phillips & Maier Autoparts, as well as various sewing factories. Joyce retired from Mr. Z's after working in their South Side and Hamlin stores.

Joyce was very active in the Jefferson and Lake Twp communities, volunteering at community events and holding various elected positions in the Jefferson Twp Lion's & Lioness Clubs. One of her proudest accomplishments next to being a wife, mother and especially a grandmother was her induction into the PA Voter Hall of Fame for Wayne County in 2016, honoring her dedication to casting her ballot in every November election for 50 consecutive years. She was a member of the Cortez United Methodist Church.

Not one to let her illness slow her down, Joyce lived her life to the fullest, remained positive and encouraged others to live the same way. She possessed an enormous passion for life and always had the next event or party planned in her mind. An avid sports fan, Joyce could be found cheering for the Yankees, Giants and the Eagles. She also enjoyed playing cards, square dancing, bowling, shopping, playing bingo, gardening, canning, sewing, volunteering and lending a hand to anyone in need. Through all of the volunteering and hobbies, Joyce's family came first; leading an active role in the lives of her children and grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Billy, she is survived by her children: Kurt Davis and his wife Cindy of Lake Ariel, Sharon Fairclough and her husband Thomas of Hamlin, Lori Foytack and her husband Brian of Madison Twp; her grandchildren: Kaleb & Samantha Davis, Ian & Lila Fairclough & Derrek Foytack; her brothers: Bruce of Marshalls Creek, Keith and wife Gail of Dunmore and Earl of Mechanic Falls, Maine; her aunt; her nieces, nephews, cousins and a large circle of friends. She was preceded in death by her brothers in law and sisters in law.

Joyce's family would like to thank Dr. Philbin, Dr. Samuelson, Dr. Sheerer, Dr. Baikadi, Dr. Heim, Dr. Ramey and Dr. Cutillo at MTH IR and all of the members of their staff. They would also like to thank Hospice of the Sacred Heart, members of Jefferson Twp Lion's Club and VFW in Cortez as well as her special caregivers Denise and Mari.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 10 at 10:00 am at Brian Arthur Strauch Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, LLC 3 First St. in Spring Brook Twp to be officiated by Deacon Patrick J. Massino. Interment will follow in Kizer Cemetery in Cortez.

Viewing will be on Wednesday, August 9 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 600 Baltimore Drive, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702, Jefferson Twp. Lions Club, 829 Lions Road Jefferson Township, PA 18436 or Thomas A Snook VFW Post 6520, 846 Cortez Road, Jefferson Twp, PA 18436.
