Joseph J. Chmielewski, 69, of Covington Twp died on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. His wife, Gayle, passed away in 2004.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Joseph J Sr. and Regina (Kelly) Chmielewski. Joe served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam, earning a bronze star. He attained his Bachelor's Degree in accounting from the University of Scranton and prior to retiring in January, 2013, he was supervisor of transportation at Regional Hospital.

Joe was a member of John J. Michaels Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5207 in Covington Twp. He continued to serve his community as a Life Member and Past Fire Chief of the Covington Independent Fire Company. He was very active with the North Pocono Mutual Aid Association and helped build working relationships with all the Fire Departments throughout the North Pocono Area. He was a past Covington Twp auditor. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most importantly, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Joe is survived by his sons: Michael and his wife Bethany of Covington Twp and Mark and his wife Jennie of Covington Twp; his grandchildren: Ayla, Joseph, Jacob and Tucker.

The funeral service will be on Tuesday, August 15 at 7:30 pm at Brian Arthur Strauch Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, LLC 3 First St in Spring Brook Twp conducted by Rev. Jean Blackie. Interment with military honors will be private in St. Catherine's Cemetery in Covington Twp.

Viewing will be on Tuesday, August 15 from 4:00 pm to 7:20 pm at the funeral home.
