William Louis DeSandis, 82 of Covington Twp died on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. He and his wife of 62 years, Shirley (Storm) DeSandis, where married on January 14, 1956.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Peter and Christina (Del Donna) DeSandis. He graduated from Dunmore High School and proudly served in the U.S. Air Force as a photographer. Bill owned and operated DeSandis Tractor in Covington Twp for over 25 years and shared his knowledge of small engines by teaching at the Vo Tech. He also helped his brothers at DeSandis Floral in Daleville and worked at Eagle Lake, Maid Rite and Home Depot.

Affectionately know as “Big Bill”, he was active in the North Pocono community, attending dinners, fundraisers and events supporting many different organizations and churches. He was a lifetime member of the Covington Independent Fire Company, Inc, serving as their President for many years and always working at their picnic. He was instrumental in beginning the Civil Defense in Covington Twp and served as their deputy director. Bill was a member of the Daleville United Methodist Church and was a member and past treasurer of The Steamtown “A” Antique Car Club. Most importantly, he always attended his grand kids sporting events and cherished the time spent with them.

In addition to his wife Shirley, Bill is survived by his children: Carol Tucker and her husband Keith of Covington Twp, Bill DeSandis, Jr and his wife Ellen of Rochester, NY and Peggy Burke and her husband Jerry of Covington Twp; his brother: Peter DeSandis and his wife Lillian of Covington Twp; his grandchildren: Keith, Mason, Eli, Luca and Liam; his great grandchild: Quinn and his many nieces, nephews, cousins and brother and sister in laws. He was preceded in death by his 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 7 at 10:30 am at Brian Arthur Strauch Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, LLC 3 First St in Spring Brook Twp conducted by Pastor Eric Luczak. Interment with committal and military honors will follow in Fairview Memorial Park in Elmhurst Twp.

Viewing will be on Friday, October 6 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
