Helen Buntz, 80, a life long resident of South Scranton died early Sunday morning at St. Mary’s Villa Nursing Home, Roaring Brook Twp. She is the widow of Russell A. Buntz Sr. who died July 13, 2003. The couple was married over 40 years.
Born in Scranton, the daughter of the late Joseph and Pauline Sobczak Dubisky, she attended Scranton area schools. She worked as a seamstress earlier in her career and later worked at St. Joseph’s Center, Scranton as a housekeeper. She was a longtime member of the former St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church, Scranton, now the St. John Neumann Parish.
Some of the activities she enjoyed were trips to Atlantic City with their eldest daughter Barbara, spending quality time with grandchildren and great grandchildren, and going to the movies with friends and family. She was also passionate about making home-cooked meals for family gatherings.
The family would like to thank Dr. Gratz and staff for their many years of care, as well as, Dr. Barry Minora, St. Mary's Villa Nursing Home staff, and Hospice Community Care.
Surviving are five daughters Barbara Kropa and husband Edward, Langhorn, Pa, Joyce Ludka and husband Robert, Trevose, Pa, Helene McQuillan and husband Thomas, McDonald, Pa, Dawn Dommes and husband Louis, Scranton, Rosalind “Rusty” Krueger and husband John, Moscow; a son Russell A. Buntz, Jr., Moosic; a brother Joseph Dubisky and wife Bobbi, Titusville, Fla.; twelve grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by an infant son David and two sisters Stasia Hatcher and Irene Felczuk.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11:30am from the Brian Arthur Strauch Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, 602 Birch Street, Scranton, Pa 18505 with mass at 12 noon in St. John Neumann Parish, Nativity of our Lord Church, 633 Orchard Street, Scranton Pa 18505, to be celebrated by the Rev. Michael Bryant, pastor. Interment to follow in St., Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow.
Friends may call Wednesday from 9:30 to 11:30am in the funeral home.
