Harold James “Dip” Dippre, Sr., 93, of Spring Brook Twp died on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at Mountain View Care Center in Scranton, where he was a guest. He and his wife, Eleanor (Williams) Dippre, would have celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on October 14th.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Earl E. and Nina (Allard) Dippre. Harold graduated from Scranton Technical High School and served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during W.W. II. He was honored to serve his country and proud to represent the red, white and blue. Prior to retiring in 1982, he worked at the Tobyhanna Army Depot.

Harold was a member of Maple Lake United Methodist Church for 65 years, where he served as the chairman of the trustees and administrative board, taught Sunday school, led the youth group, sang in the choir, volunteered many hours on the construction of the fellowship hall and enjoyed the company of friends in the couples club. He also was a Cubmaster and assistant scout leader in Boy Scouts of America Troop 132 in Spring Brook Twp.

He also enjoyed model railroading, researching his family history, bowling, traveling in his camper with his family and cheering on the Baltimore Orioles and Penn State Nittany Lions football.

In addition to his wife, Harold is survived by his daughters: Anita Edwards and her husband Frank of Roaring Brook Twp and Lauren Lankford and her husband Richard of Gouldsboro; his grandchildren: Stacey Stout and her husband Alex, Jordan Edwards, Alison Edwards, Brandon Lankford and Kirsten Lankford; his great grandchildren: Ava and Ruby Stout; his nieces: Bonnie Iannarone, Carol Cruciani and Elaine Colwell and his many great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his son: Harold, Jr.; his sister: Margaret Grimes and his brother Edward.

Harold's family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of Mountain View Care Center and to Pastor Eric Luczak for the kindness and compassion they afforded to him.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, August 12 at 11:00 am at Maple Lake United Methodist Church, 632 State Route 690 in Spring Brook Twp to be conducted by Pastor Eric Luczak. Interment with military honors will follow in Maple Lake Cemetery.

Viewings will be on Friday, August 11 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Brian Arthur Strauch Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, LLC in Spring Brook Twp and on Saturday, August 12 from 10:00 am until 10:55 am at Maple Lake Church.
